TREATMENT OF CANDIDA VAGINITIS

TREATMENT OF CANDIDA VAGINITIS
By Tess Thompson

Candida Vaginitis is a typical problem caused by Candidiasis, which is characterized by inflammation of the female genitalia. Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by Candida albicans, a parasitic fungus that can infect the mouth, skin, intestines or the vagina. The fungus is normally present in each one of us in its yeast form and its growth is controlled by friendly bacterium like acidophilus, commonly found in yoghurt cultures.

An imbalance in the intestinal flora where good bacteria are killed due to excessive use of antibiotics, unhealthy lifestyles and a weak immune system usually cause growth of yeast and it transformation into its fungal avatar. If not checked in time, Candidiasis can manifest in nearly 100 symptoms and vaginitis is one of the most common forms of Candida infection in women. As yeast is normally present in the vagina also, such growth causes introduction of new yeast in the vagina and causes Candida Vaginitis.

You can reduce your risk of developing Candida Vaginitis by improving your hygiene, keeping the genital area cool, clean and dry and using cotton under garments that allow free circulation of area. However, if you see some Candida symptoms it is better to look for immediate Candida treatments lest the condition takes a turn for the worse and becomes systemic (affecting the entire body system). Candida Vaginitis can cause extreme discomfort and embarrassment in public. Approximately three quarters of yeast infections are caused by Candida albicans but self diagnosis is not advisable since similar symptoms can be produced by other types of Candida as well.

Several creams for local application are available over the counter. However, if the condition is severe a physician will need to prescribe oral medication. Most of the over the counter creams contain anti-fungal family drugs and work in a similar fashion - the cell walls of the organism are broken by the drug, eventually killing it.

If you are wary of conventional allopathic medications because of the side effects that they are known for, you have a choice of alternative medicines. Homeopathic remedies provide an equally effective Candida cure. Herbs like garlic, tea tree oil, and Pau d’Arco are also known for their properties of combating Candida.

Dietary modification, and supplemental acidophilus are an essential part of any Candida treatment that you may choose. You will be required to cut down on your sugar intake or avoid it totally and include yoghurt, an excellent source of friendly bacterium.

Candida Vaginitis mostly causes itching, redness, burning, irritation, and a whitish or yellowish vaginal discharge. Although there are some very effective conventional, alternative and home remedies for treating Candida Vaginitis, if the infection lasts for more than a week accompanied by an offensive smelling discharge with fever and general feeling of illness, it may be a sign of some other infection. Such instances require professional help to see whether you require yeast infection treatment or any other treatment.
